New England Equal Best Winning Streak From Tom Brady Era with Triumph Against Jets
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson has recorded five TDs this season
New England matched their best victory streak since the Brady period as they defeated division opponents the New York Jets 27-14 in the NFL
First-year standout Henderson led the way with three TDs as the Patriots claimed an eighth consecutive victory for the initial occasion since iconic QB Brady's closing campaign with the team in the 2019 season
Quarterback Drake Maye threw for 281 yards and a score, completing 25 of 34 passes
The triumph bolsters the New England's lead at the top of the AFC East as they moved to nine victories against two losses, with the New York at the foot after slipping to two wins and eight losses
The visitors had taken the lead at their home field with quarterback Justin Fields rushing for a short rushing score to cap the New York's initial series
But the Patriots responded in the second period as the rookie scored two seven-yard TDs before the running back hauled in a throw from Maye at the back of the end zone halfway into the third period to push the score to 21 to 7
"That was a crucial moment for him rising to the challenge, and it's been excellent for him to keep getting these reps," Maye commented on the rookie. "He desires to be outstanding."
Fields connected with John Metchie toward the end of the third period to close the gap for the visitors but Borregales kicked a two field goals in the final period as the home side closed out the win
