The UK airline is introducing free quick in-flight connectivity by way of satellite deal

Travelers aboard British Airways are set to enjoy quick wifi onboard at no cost due to a recent agreement from SpaceX's satellite provider.

Free plus High-speed Internet Available to Everyone

The airline revealed that this no-cost, “fast and dependable” connectivity offering via Starlink becomes offered to customers flying economy, business, and premium cabins starting next month.

Broad Rollout Over Multiple Airlines

The holding firm for the airline, IAG, announced it had secured an agreement with the satellite firm to offer connectivity access across over 500 planes across its operators, which also include the Irish airline, Iberia, and Vueling.

Seamless Internet starting at Gate through Landing

British Airways noted that this introduction for the service formed part of a multi-billion pound “upgrade” plan and would provide lag-free connectivity service to travelers starting at boarding to landing, also when traveling over large bodies of water and isolated areas.

Travelers can connect numerous devices and won't need to have to use a special password.

“Gamechanging for the airline as well as our customers, elevating the journey in the air on BA by giving customers continuous connectivity throughout the flight.”

Present Connectivity Offerings

Limited internet access is currently available for British Airways travelers across most of their aircraft using its .air platform.

Enrollees of BA’s loyalty club are able to send communications and plain-text messages in the air without paying, while travelers wishing to stream audio, video, and content on their travel and are not travelling in first class can expect to pay from four pounds ninety-nine to twenty-one pounds ninety-nine per internet bundle.

SpaceX operates a network comprising thousands of satellites which is managed by SpaceX’s SpaceX.

Ongoing Improvements for BA

BA's management are striving to revitalize operations again following a period with cost cutting, system failures, industrial action, plus large-scale layoffs.

The airline noted that use with smart technology has assisted the airline to reach its punctuality to record highs since over a decade ago.

Financial Results

In August, BA disclosed a jump in operating profits during H1 of this year, assisting its owner profit higher.

International Airlines Group is set to announce their results covering the quarter this summer soon.

Additional Satellite Deals

The airline's announcement arrives shortly following telecom carrier another UK company said it was partnering with Starlink to boost wireless coverage in rural parts in Britain, by allowing consumers to automatically link mobile devices via space-based systems when no regular mobile signal is available.
